Relationship Between Technology Consumption And Sleep...
There exists a reasonably sized collection of studies that examine the relationship between technology consumption and sleep deprivation. In this technology driven Information Age many researchers believe it is important to determine the affect of such electronic devices on the populationââ¬â¢s health and day-to-day life. While measuring scales and values differ among articles, there is an agreement among researchers that in bed technology use is positively associated with Insomnia. The relationship has been assessed through examination of morningness/eveningness, chronotype, daytime sleepiness and other determinates of sleep deprivation. Most studies examine late night technology usage as it relates to the adolescent population (=18 years old), potentially compromising the external validity of their findings. The study ââ¬Å"The Role of Environmental factors on Sleep Patterns and School Performance in Adolescentsâ⬠examines environmental factors that may contribute to school performance in adolescent populations. It was found that children on average were getting 7.08h of sleep. A strong association was established between sleep time and academic performance, as with morningness and eveningness and sleep/wake behavior. However, one may argue that puberty; parental supervision and a difference in schedule might affect the outcome of the results.
